Which event starts the one-month period?
Article 209 of Royal Decree 1155/2024 links the personal card application to entry into Spain, grant of the permission or its taking effect, depending on the case and any required Social Security registration. Do not always count from the date printed on the decision. Check your particular permission, its notification and any outstanding condition before calculating the deadline.

Prepare the correct documents
Check the police instructions for the procedure and location. Normally you need EX-17, a valid passport, the approval or evidence of the status being documented, the required photograph, fee receipt and previous card where applicable. Address evidence may also be required. Take the necessary originals and complete, readable copies. Where fingerprints are required, a representative cannot provide them instead of the holder.
Government fees are separate from the firm's fee
The police fee list checked for this guide distinguishes an initial temporary or stay card at 16,08 €, a temporary renewal or stay extension at 19,30 €, and a long-term card at 21,87 €. A Spanish citizen's family-member TIE is listed at 12 €. Select the correct item on form 790-012 and check the current official amount. The unit will explain collection arrangements; there is no single guaranteed production time for every card.
Lost card or expired long-term card
Loss, destruction or unusable condition of a still-valid card calls for replacement, not automatically a residence renewal. The replacement normally retains the remaining validity. Expiry of a long-term card is also different from loss of long-term residence: check the card-renewal process and whether any ground affecting residence applies. If you are abroad or planning travel, check the permitted return documents before departure.
